Jennifer F. is a 25-year-old graduate of Texas Tech University. She shared some thoughts with us about her GradMed experience. Her answers to our questions are below.
Can you tell us a little bit about your claim?
In September 2008, I went to the doctor to discuss a lump I had found. After being sent to get a mammogram, sonogram and biopsy, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I met with my breast surgeon who scheduled a series of tests followed by a bilateral mastectomy. After analyzing the tumor they had removed, I was told I needed to undergo chemotherapy and possibly radiation. I underwent six cycles of chemotherapy over the course of five months. After that was completed, I was able to have reconstructive surgery on my breasts.
How are you doing today?
As of today, I feel that I am doing great. The last several months have all kind of blurred together, but I feel that I recovered very quickly and bounced back to my energetic self.
What was your overall experience with GradMed?
GradMed did a terrific job. I couldn't be more happy or thankful for all the kind and caring people who work there. They were very easy to reach and always willing to answer my questions. Considering all I was dealing with, insurance was the last thing on my mind, and knowing that I had GradMed and how great and reliable they were, I was able to rest assured things would be taken care of.
Why did you decide to purchase GradMed in the first place?
When I graduated college, I wasn't quite sure where I was going to find a job. My family's insurance only covered me when I was a full-time student, so I was in need of coverage. We had received a letter from Texas Tech University regarding this Alumni Insurance Program and my Dad thought it would be something we could use temporarily.
What other options (other than GradMed) did you consider/explore?
We looked into independent policies, but what GradMed had to offer was better than anything else we could find for short-term health insurance.
Would you recommend GradMed to others?
Definitely. GradMed was easy and reliable. It's perfect for anyone straight out of college without a job or people in-between jobs. Going without coverage would be a big mistake because you never know what could happen, and I'm proof of that.
How was the staff or customer service group to work with?
The staff was incredible. Words can't describe how great they were to us. After a few months, they all knew who I was and would always ask how I was feeling. One representative we constantly stayed in contact with, Lisa, was a godsend. She even called me from time to time just to check in and see how I was doing. She always knew what was going on and was able to get our questions answered quickly. There probably wasn't a day that went by that she didn't think my step-mom would be calling with a question. It will be sad not being able to talk to her so often. She went above and beyond her job requirements to make sure I was taken care of.
